Folks,
The F40 has starting issues, Yea I have only done a farmers tune up, fixing a bare wire going into the distributor and cleaning the points, rotor and cap contacts. I am starting to fab the brackets to hold the gas tank. It has been setting on blocks of wood for a while. (I have to age these projects like fine wine):) If anyone knows the points, rotor and cap numbers please let me know. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

With the cap off you may find the distributor tag# if you can use a mirror to see around the back, if necessary. Of course better yet, if you pull the distributor out, as the digits are so small. If I remember right, I think the points are the same as in the Allis tractors. You could pull the cap off one of your tractors and compare.

Eric, Folks,
I will try those ideas, thank you! This cap has screws holding it to the base, compared to the other Allis tractors we have. I have a new set of points for the CA. I will look at those. Regards, Chris and Cheryl

Folks,
Just playing in the shop. Added a little starting fluid and some choke and the F40 fired up quickly. Still doesnt seem to be charging at all when reved up, when checking on the battery terminals. I had replaced the alternator but fuel leaked into it, which may have not helped it? Also need to fiqure out how to check for alternator charging right at the alternator terminals to assure it is or is not working. It moves and lifts: Only yellow I had but the fuel tank is MUCH more secure: Regards, Chris and Cheryl

HI, is there anything between this outer plate and the drum with the gear in it to seal the dust out, mine appears to just have some grease (that also did a nice job of lubing the breaks)

Grizz,
Sorry I did not see your post till tonight. Not sure I can answer your question? But I do remember that grease is not good inside the brake system as it gets on the shoes. Regards, Chris and Cheryl
