Keep it original!!!
A tractor can be restored an unlimited number of times. Once you take a nice original and restore it, that unique history and character that makes it special is irretrievably lost. |

It is totally up to you. Don't worry about losing or gaining value. You're not going sell it. It is a great looking survivor, so it looks great left alone. If all repainted, it will also look great. I wish I had all of ours repainted.
How did you get the Captain Of The Farm to sit so still in the drivers seat? This picture should be on a magazine cover.

My 45 looked the same or a lil better when I bought it original, got a wild hair and decided I wanted to paint it. Is it worth more or less? Who knows but I don't plan on it going anywhere. Do what you want with it.

Only time I repaint tractors is if they've already been previously repainted or if they are very sad rust buckets. I say yours is too nice to repaint.

Good-looking tractor. Just clean it up. Don't let the dog drive it all day.

That might clean up nicely with a two stage auto cleaner and wax keeping the original paint.

Love the picture, and that looks just like my dog, but I don't think I could get her to sit up there.
The paint is really up to you. It does look decent now. Depends if you like the original or want a pretty shiny one. Think about too what you will do the first time you chip the paint or wrap a chain around something. |

I know the new paints are P.O. #1, but when you see all of these old original tractors that have remaining paint, they all look more of a 'pumpkin orange' color.
Has anyone ever tried to repaint one in a color that resembles these old girls in their work clothes?? Might be interesting. I agree, there's something eye catching about a nice old original tractor. They can only be that way once. |

What are the size / brand of those rear tires! The look like good diggers! The rims look wide?
Ok paint question. This tractor is so nice and straight I would not paint it. But as others have said if you did it would look really good too! When I did the last two WD's they were in very bad shape in all areas. The D17 I bought a year ago is still in its work clothes even though it had been painted once in its life. It may stay that way until I get the urge. It sounds / looks like your 45 is in good shape. Sheet metal looks good, has been converted to 12V. Engine is done. Battery box is newer. Rims OK? So on one hand it would be a much easier and less costly resto. I don't think I would change to a wide front. I like the narrow front! Regards, Chris |

x2. That is a major consideration I didn't mention. It must be out of the weather to preserve it's nice state, or sooner or later it will just be a rusty heap.

LEAVE IT ORIGINAL !! Have a twin to it in the shed also with a 80R mounted.
If I go to a show with hundreds of tractors, its the originals that I remember.
The way it is shows its history and care. All gone when you paint it. Edited by Calvin Schmidt - 30 Mar 2017 at 1:34pm |
