    Posted: 29 Mar 2012 at 7:52pm
I'm having a heck of a time getting the bolts loose that hold on the blades of a Woods L59 belly mower. Are they reverse or regular thread?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to break them loose without ruining them, such as a torch?
Thanks.

They are left hand, or as you call them reverse threads.

I had a mower that had stuck nut on the blade, we heated it carfully with a torch and it broke loose.

A six point socket will be your friend. Yes left hand threads.  Oh yes and a good impact wrench to put the six point socket on.

Put a block of wood between the blade tip and the front shield. That is how I do it.Smile

After you get them loose and before re-installing use never seize on the threads.

If it is an L59, that L stands for left handed because the blades turn counter clockwise as you look down on the deck and it will have left handed threads. I do like Dick suggests, a 6  point impact socket and all ya gotta do is bump the trigger a couple times to remove the blade.

I put a block of wood (4x4), also, and a breaker bar.  Fortunately I've never had to pull out the impact tools.  And like Ken suggested, some type of anti-sieze is helpful.

To remove the blade, you must turn the blade's retaining bolt to the left, or counterclockwise. Before undoing the blade, tip the mower on its side with the engine air cleaner facing up and block the blade with a piece of wood so it can't turn.

Wouldn't that be kinda hard to do, on a tractor mounted mower?Wink

Milwaukee 1/2” impact gun takes them right off. Left hand threads tend to tighten as the mower is used due to the direction the blade turns. Best tool I have purchased in many years. We run our CA up on ramps to get the necessary clearance to remove. L306 is just a bigger version of the L59.

"WRONG"
The L59 mower deck commonly used on Allis tractors, has left handed threads, and needs to be turn clockwise, to remove.

Tuck is correct Clap about the "CLOCKWISE" direction to get them off.  (The OPPOSITE of normal)
Mike, I noticed that because I helped Goose with this WAY BACK.
I also noticed that this "Mowersden" was ONLY ON here for 10 minutes and left a link.  Is this spam?  or is she for real?  We'll know the answer if she ever comes back.
