Yes, I am a kid(15). I found 2 what I think are good deals but I don't know much about either tractors. We have 5 tractors all newer but I want to get an antique to work a little bit and take to shows.
I have found an Allis Chalmers WC that needs a new starter, and that has had a plate welded onto the block where it was leaking, for $800. I have also a found an Allis Chalmers B that ran when parked a year ago just needs some TLC for $900. I want an antique tractor just to do light jobs like mowing(if i got the B I would put a belly mower on it). I need all your guys AC help, the only AC we own is a 5050 with a front end loader that gets a lot of actions. |

Im also a kid (13) and welcome to the forum! Is the wc styled or unstyled? Those both sound like good deals if there is no major problems.

I'm biased, but I would say go with the B. Parts are cheaper and it is easier to work on.
That being said, I think they might be a little high on the price, unless it has new tires. I wouldn't want tp pay more than $600-$700 for a B in need of TLC, that has not run for a year.

Mr. Kid I'm with Glenn on the price. Most of the time "ran when parked" means "We left it where it quit working." Let us know where in PA you are located and if you can, send us some pictures of the tractors you are thinking about. I for one, have many extra B and WC parts. However, there is a rule of the Universe that says they are usually the parts no one wants.

Are those car donuts for the front wheels? Actually, they make pretty good turf tires.

Thanks for pointing all this out guys! Pointing out things that could lead to a bad purchase really appreciate it! The last thing I want to do is waste my hard earned money(grass cutting, etc) on something this is not worth it.

If it were me I would choose the B just because I have WC that runs and two torn down in a pile at the back of the barn. B's are not as common around here as WC's

Welcome to the forum. I think a B would be a good starter tractor for you, but $900 is too much for that one.

Found another B for 700, this taken from the ad. No pictures. Might take a look at this one.
Allis Chalmers B model tractor. Restoration started. New brakes, rebuilt carb, rebuilt magneto. Good tin. |

Ok, why not try this....
I'll take them both( if from same guy) for say $900. They both 'don't run' and need work.Who knows what's wrong 'inside' the engine, tranny, etc.! If different sellers, $500 tops for either, parts can be pricey( starter could be $150 easy),tires ca-ching,etc.
It's a tossup which one to buy, maybe see what friends, neighbours, etc. have. Check local tractor yards for 'parts' machines.Be a bummer to buy the WC and then find 4 parts B's....

I'm not a fan of B's C's or CA's myself, not because they're not great tractors but because I grew up on the "big" tractors WD45, WC's etc.
But in your case I think one of them would be the better choice. One with a belly mower would actually be useful and their smaller size might make it easier to haul to shows.
Don't tell my wife, but as much fun as a WC is to play with they're pretty much unused most of the time, (not being used = useless, means we could get rid of it...) it seems there is always something newer around here that is easier and safer to use than the WCs. With 5 modern tractors at your place a WC would not get much real exercise IMO.

I vote for a B/C too... it's easier to move/carry parts by yourself and with smaller and fewer parts, it's generally going to be cheaper to fix up. Simpler too if it's your first time and you have to do some major work on it. I wouldn't pass up a ridiculously good deal on a WD/WC however, so it depends on what's in your area.

Where in PA are you? That WC sounds like one down the road from me a few miles and I would run, not walk away from that tractor....plate welded on the side of the block, tires and junk, no fenders, lots of missing pieces....it wouldnt even make a good parts tractor! I'm in Centre County...if you're close to here let me know, I have a line on a few decent AC's....I know of a C, WD45 and a CA that could probably be bought....

A B would be a good first tractor to learn on, but there is also nothing wrong with a WC. I got a C ("lil' allis) as my first. Easy tractors to work on, and small enough to haul around easily.
Like others have said, that B is too high priced though, keep looking for a better deal. And Welcome to the forum by the way! This is the best place on the web for Allis info. Glad to see more younger members joining lately! (I'll be 26 at the end of the month)

IF it were possible you know I would take the B. Very easy to work on parts available fun to work with - especially for what you want. Price little high but there are B's around. Why not take a good look around or perhaps get the price down a little.
In any event WELCOME!!!
Let us know what you do.
Good Luck!

Hello tractor kid and WELCOME!! I would contact Benny and ckeck out the "CA". It is a very handy little tractor with lots of power, 4 speed trans, power adj wheels, and live power, and hydralics. One of my favorites out of 70 +or - Good luck and don't rush into something you might regret!!

I'd take a "B" as a project. they are small easy to work on parts are plentiful. I would not give over 500 for a non-runner. If its stuck then even less. A B with a woods belly mower works great for grass and still is usable for other things. |
