which tire better for pulling?

Assuming both are new and same tread, 12.4-38 or 14.9-28? Tall skinny, or short and wide? Someone suggested to run skinny tall because the WC would have enough slip to keep from running out of power instead of running 15.5-38 that would hook to hard and pull me down. He said he runs 12.4-38 on his moline and could usually out pull another guy with a wc on 14.9-28s. What do you guys suggest? Tires are $$$$$$$$$ want to make sure I make the right choice. PS. our track is hard clay and I have 55-60 hp. Thanks, JM

I did the best on new tires in the 3.5 MPH classes. Narrow or wide is a good question. If you pull over a large area one will work better on some tracks and the other will work better on others.  I found the narrow tires did better on hard tracks. My C Farmall with the narrow tires would out pull my Allis Chalmers C on wider tires in the same class on the same track on the same day. On a different track it was the other way around.

13.6 38 is what i run on my wc there real good except for muddy tracks there armstrongs

Just my opinion but id keep searching for 38s to be honest i dont no what weight your going to pull but im gona guess around 3500 to 4000 with your hp as long as your around a 3 mph speed limit you could run 15.5 i would think ive seen it done around here. Lol in fact ive been beat by them im thinking about changing mine id just have to buy more rims. Rarely do i see 28 inch tires do real good minus a few exceptions.

my 2 cents i have only pulled for 6 years until i quit but if it is a wc with the true wc rear end in it yet not a rc rear end i had the best luck pulling a set of original good year tires 10 28 tires i had that were plump full of fluid and i had cast iron rims  the lugs on those tires were less than half and cracks every where  but would pack not dig when i would spin alot that was just that much more dirt to pull down the track in front of the sled skid plate. the last set of brand new firestone 8 ply tires i had just dug and dug but i still think the older half bald tires had less digging and way less of a chance of the lugs rolling over when you really get pulling hard and are pulling low air pressure new tires seam to do the best in muddy wet dirt tracks were packing is not the issue thats my opinion had lots of fun though i miss it thats for sure
