My 190XT has the shift lever up front with an extra linkage back to the tranny....now it has enough slop that I have to apply the left brake in order to get it into reverse. I've seen pictures of 190s with the shift lever coming right out of the transmission...I assume this is a later version. Anyone know at what s/n the change was made, and if they can be retrofitted? |

Eldon ,Im pretty sure the shifter has always been like that cause of the platform; I have a 1964 190 n\f and its to the front ; some pullers have it coming straight out but its also staight up and I think on a factory seat setup the seat would be in the way ; to get the slop out just take off the narrow cover the runs between the shifter and the fuel tank, replace the pins with 1\2 inch bolts with lock nuts , it,ll tighten up how ever you want it

What Doug said. Just cut off the extra threads sticking out of the nut or you might not get it in 1st gear with the cover on.
