Any good/bad experiences on this model? I've never heard of a T-816 Vari-Shift before. What could be the issue with the transmission that would cause it to jump out of gear? Thanks!

Well I'd BUY IT for $200 ! nice seat and good rear tires AND a running engine !!
Kind of a 'nobrainer'.... poping out of gear could be as simple as a missing tension spring.... I'd still buy it... |

Yep! I'd buy it in a heartbeat mainly because it's so cheap and looks decent. I wouldn't imagine it would be too hard to fix the jumping out of gear. BUT......my folks are saying "No!!". That stuck a knife in that deal real quick. I could probably buy it, then they would be mad for a few weeks, and then they'd get over it. But, I don't want to do that.

Creston, that is a deal and Brenda gets anything I need for my two 816GT's. Not variable tranny/rears but have no problem eating grass with that 48" cut. Grab it and if it has the sealed spindles, Sandy Lake can set you up and it only takes a couple hours to swap them in, without removing the deck. Just rotate them so the grease zirks are easily accessible from the sides if possible. Both of mine have the original B&S Twin 16 and are tough old gals.
