I'm looking at a later series 1. It's a gas, narrow front, bar grill with straight sheet metal and good rear tires, rims are ok. No headlights, no snap couplers, needs front tires and rims (has 15" car rims on it). Sounds like the carb / tank needs cleaned and probably a carb kit, but no smoke or bad noises, trans & PD OK. Typical old repaint job, lots of Farm & Fleet orange. What do you guys think?

I was thinking $1500 is a decent deal and for $2000, I'd think hard but likely it can stay where it is

I paid $2500 for a '58 series 1 diesel that ran good, had nice tin, and needed 4 tires and rear rims repaired.

there's a series 2 or 3 ( I can't rember) avalialble locally for $3000 it's all complete, wide front with good tires and the rear tires are brand new, it's got a Gleaner E engine in it, thet's got a fresh carb and ignition. I'll probably buy it, it's a bit more than I wanted to spend on one but it's likely worth the little extra as I won't have any parts running or body work and in the end it will cost me less than a cheap one.

Oh well, it was probably worth more, but I'm short on "fun" funds, so I bid up to $1950 on Ebay, had top bid at $1500 for a couple days, then $1776 for a couple days then someone sniped it at the end for $1952.
Oh well at least I'm not going to be in the dog house for Christmas. LOL!

You gotta love snipers. I've lost too many deals to those critters. Who has time to sit at the keyboard and wait out an auction!!

Ya, I've gotta buddy who tells me there's software that will snipe for you.
I usually just bid what I can afford. I hate to be outbid for $2, but like any auction if your going to duke it out you may be outbid by $200 or pay $199 more than you planned. LOL!
While I think this tractor was probably worth $2000 I can only bid what I've got available, and you have to allow for what the Ebay seller doesn't tell or doesn't know, that will get in your pocket book.

Yep, I saw that one too. I'd say that was a decent deal for someone. Sniping stinks, but sometimes you got to do it to win. If I bid on something, I put a low bid in and right at the last 5 seconds put in what I'm willing to pay. Sometimes you win, sometimes you loose...

I've pretty much quit buying large stuff on e bay. Do use it for manuals and small parts, etc. My strategy, if it can be called such, is just to wait till as near the end of the auction as I can then bid my maximum bid. If no one else want's it as much as I do, it's mine, otherwise someone else is the "lucky" guy.
