Mom just uses a lectric bucket heater, just a probe lookin thing that plugs in, and heats the bucket, just a little. Look under chicken supplies... you should be givin them fresh water, 1X a day, anyway...

I've used Pipe heat tape and insulation of course.
Aquarium heater and insulation, also put heater in jar of water in bucket to keep submerged. And maybe you could used one of your hundreds of heating pads laying around. ![]() |

We opened the windows between the barn and the chicken coop. Let the cows keep the chickens warm. Chicken coop was built off end of barn still had screens in the Windows kept chickens from getting in the barn the whole south wall was Windows. The coop never got below freezing. Early spring when we started new chicks. They stayed in a large water tank in the calf pen with a light in one end. Even at -20 when I went in to clean the barn ever afternoon first thing getting in side was take off jacket and hang up till it was time to roll the wheelbarrow out to the manure pile.

I wonder if one of them little pig warming mats would work? I've tried the heated dog waterer, and the heated bucket warmer, and the pan heater and others and they all gave up about 1/2 way thru winter. guess i'll hafta do a propane heater. hopefully i'll have a new building for them too in a couple months from now. coons have already got 3 of them so far.

Just cot my copy of FSM, they also used a dimmer switch, with that crock pot, experimented around, and found a setting, that kept the water heated to just above freezing... Hang the electrical components up high, and you should be OK...
