So long story short my radiator in the 7020 is bad. No new ones available and no tested salvage ones either. Looks like one from a 426 can be made to fit and maybe one from a 7000 (but it'll have less capacity). Not sure what to do, my guy says the lower capacity 7000 rad is a bad idea, leaning towards a new 426 rad or a tested used one for the 426. Shop also said he can recore mine but it'll be more than a new 426 one. Thoughts?
No ac on this one and it mostly does stationarity PTO work so it has to have a good cooling system. Also would like ideas where to get a new foam kit while I'm at it. Thanks!

HEITMAN TRACTOR SALVAGE may have a used radiator. Foam kit is # 70270115 and is available from AGCO OR HY-CAP.

I've heard that the new radiators aren't that great and that having it recored is the best option plus you can add more rows to the radiator. I've had no real life experience with that scenario though.

No question, since the shop can re-core yours, fix it right and eliminate the cobbling. The cheapest option is not always the best option. As long as the rad shop does great work!

All farm tractor radiator issues I’ve had in the past were all recored by a good, highly recommended radiator shop specializing in farm tractors. Never disappointed with a recore. Can’t say any good things about a rodded job. Was always told that if you’re going the distance(expense) to remove radiator tank(head) to facilitate rodding an older clogged core, then may as well pay for new quality core.

Yes, the AC 70xx series radiator outer foam seal is crucial. AGCO dealer put foam seal kit in my 7060 14yrs ago & it’s still good. I suppose if you’re handy, you could try attaining dense foam/glue from local upholstery shop. I’ve not used them, but hear of guys glueing pool noodles around outer radiator with success.??

You’re probably already aware. So just a reminder...
While radiator is being fixed, thoroughly flush out the 301 block’s old coolant.
After fixed radiator is installed, use the DrAllis’ recent post recommendation of using the modern day CAT / CUMMINS engine coolant that minimizes piston liner detonation(cavitation).

Are you sure you could get a new 426 radiator?  A few years back when the one on my 7045 puked, I tried and could not.  Got mine recored, they made it like a 7060, and I'm satisfied.  Weren't cheap, but works good.

All States Ago Parts shows used Tested radiators in stock for $425.00. Their website says to call them. I don't know if this is a good price. I googled a 7020 Allis Chalmers radiator and their website came up.

Put AGCO foam on 8070 10yrs ago and it is TRASH! Falling apart, don't reach the hood.$75 wasted.

Foam will only last so long, especially dependent on the environment the tractor works in. The problem in my view Steve is the $75 price tag but I bought an after market kit maybe 4 years ago.... so far so good but it was about 75$ too. I would think there has to be a better material for $75.

Yeah, it sets inside Cept when farming. My 220 has some old yellow foam stuffed around it. Still decent after 30yrs that I've owned it.

When I worked at the AC dealer the shop foreman's wife did upholstery redoing couches and chairs for folks. He would bring in some of that yellow foam and cut it to fit around radiators with an electric meat knife he kept at the shop. Worked pretty good.

I'm going to Hobby Lobby and see what's available. The junk new piece I put on is black and fine pore. It is crumbling apart. I did like how it was cut to fit the air pipes but for the money I'll try my skill at something else.

Had the 8050 recored a couple years ago. It was expensive but what else are you going to do. At that time we bought a foam kit from Fehr. Don’t remember what it cost but it seemed more like plastic foam. It hasn’t deteriorated any. Good luck

Place in Texas recored one for my 6060 a few years ago and it was around 600,, but should last another 30 years

I experienced this problem with both of my 7020's.   The first one, a shop fixed it and it lasted about 5years.   The second i bought a reconditioned one from a salvage yard.   I sold both tractors on my farm sale.   I couldn't find a core to have mine recored.  I'm watching this thread to see if anyone knows a good answer.   Oh, bye the way, I'm the guy who builds doorshock kits for the 7000 series tractors.    I'm sold out now and will be making up more kits when I get back to NE.   I'm in Yuma AZ, now, staying warm!

You can solve a problem the good way or the cheap way.  The cheap way is not always the best way.  As said above, cobble jobs trying to make something else fit is not worth the time and frustration. 

Yes, recores can be expensive, but you will probably never have to touch it again in your life time.  I just had my D21 rad recored - it was $750, but what are you going to do?  A tractor is no good without a good rad.

The other rad in this picture is from a D15.  Which one is it again???

A few years ago my older brother restored '50 GMC. Since he wanted more oomph while he was at it he put in a warm 455 pont. engine. Since he lived fairly close to KC he found a place to build his rad. It was a very healthy rad. With air running pulling a right good size camper in hot weather he had no problems, and as you know those old jimmy's and chebby's had a rather narrow nose that limited how big the rad. could be. That being said, there are shops out there that can do the work,but it's just finding them.      Leon

installed a new rad. in a 7000 came from Midwest rad. DeMoines Iowa.Could not find a rad. shop that would fix old one,said it was rotten.but was never put in tank to test it.New one was apprrox.$625 with shipping.

Was going to recore dad's original WD last year but the top tank was cracked/soldered too many places and the guy said could end up being a dud after a lot of labor. Got  a CHINA one and so far so good but it gets little use. Was going to be a little more to recore and I'd have rather but seemed too iffy.
