I'd call it a "70" series with double disc openers.

The old round steel seed boxes should fit,??
Use JD plates with AC adaptors or AC plates.

Well I picked up this planter unit and thought it was a 70 series but after looking through my manual and other 70 series the chain tension system looks different  is this possibly a 60 series planter ??

According to the Operator's Manual for the 50 and 60 Series Planting Units, yours is a Model 50. The Model 50 could be converted to a Model 60 by replacing the corn hopper support with the heavy duty hopper support. It appears that a Model 70 hopper was installed on your unit at some point. This information is in A-C Form 571269.

Well today I tried to put the 70 series hopper on it fit and the seed plate moves  but the adjustment handle hits on the hopper  so it must me a 50 or 60 series so I think i will put a short metal hopper on it...

does  any one have one of these set up as a 1 row garden planter ??
