I watch a lot of classified ad sites, and wondered what everyone's opinion of the cheapest HP out there is to buy. And sometimes the most underrated or overlooked tractors. This is just a question for fun. I think overall brands, the Case SC might be the cheapest hp for powering a mower or just utility work. And as for the most underrated or overlooked in the AC line might be the AC 200. What is your guys opinion. Dave.

I agree, The 200 was/is great value vs power, been told stories of owners pushing them with the stacks red hot.

For me, the 200 has the prettiest grill with the white mesh. For the most HP for the money, how about the 7080? At an auction they don't bring to much. Without a PS trans or 540/1000 PTO one can understand. Remember also that the engines turned over 2800 RPM, many of them went bad. But those that are still around, they can still get the job done. Ours pulls around a Parker 800 bu. graincart. If you went to your dealer and they had a 200 factory cab and air. A D21 series II, a 8050 PS with or without FWA, and a 7080, I would think the 7080 would be on the lot the longest. One more tractor I don't hear much about is the 210.

Its save to say its not Green day in day out. On auction who knows it can change by the day. In the world of orange it would be a 7060 or 7080.

Some of those old cases were only good for boat anchors!! When I was knee high to a grasshopper my Dad had one that was not very old, came with the farm he bought. He traded it in on a WC Allis.

For bigger horsepower, I have always thought the Deutz Allis 9100 series were pretty cheap. The Deutz is a good engine and the White power train is simple and durable.

I've always thought the Ford Major Diesel must be cheap horsepower because so many scrap yards and used tractor dealers have them with loaders and booms for moving stuff around. For farming... maybe not so much.

In these parts a decent 7580 goes for $7500, a lot less than most tractors with 75 hp less. I think they are just too small a 4 wheel drive and an "unpopular" brand with many buyers.

For the Cheapest is Belarus. I dont like to say it but I have a 400 60 hp 3pt you can get them for 1500 bucks or less. You just need oil on hand because they leak. I seen brand new ones leaking on the lot.

Old white's 2-180, and massey's 1105, 1085 are probly the cheapest to buy, allis is in the same category with the 70xx's. Personally i don't think its always economical to just buy the cheapest tractor, i want good tractors that i know are gonna get the job done and not cost money in oil, parts, etc. We paid more for our 986 and 4440, but they'll be around for a while.

I think Case is abouit the cheapest HP you're going to find around here. I run a 801 in the woods and really like it, my brother runs a SC. The older Farmalls are also a good work horse. If your'e looking for tractor in the $1000 range. Orange paint is getting spendy. But there are deals out there See a few cheap of D17s for sale. Most to tyhe old Iron has it problems from years of abuse and some engnering problems

It depends on how much hp. H farmalls are on every corner around here. They sell cheap and lots of parts to be had.

The Fordson Major Series as mentioned above were cheap and cheaper to run. I had 3 and all were very easy on the diesel.

Price also varies greatly by location. Seems the southeast prices are higher than midwest, and looking at ads in california...forget it. Saw an IH cub at a winery with asking price of 7000!
