There should be a letter before that number.  Serial number is just in front of the gearshift.  Should read "Tractor No."....

If the steering arm is pointing up out of the steering gear box it is a C if pointing down it is a B

It is not uncommon to see a C with a B transmission and vise versa

The shop manual that has sections for each might help identification:

Maybe post some pics of the tractor. Lots of folks on here will ID it real quick then.
Everything is impossible until someone does it! WD45-trip loader 1947 c w/woods belly mower, 1939 B, #3 sickle mower 1944 B, 2 1948 G's. Misc other equipment that my wife calls JUNK!

A B is narrower (rear wheels) than a C.

A  "B" will have a gear box under the gas tank with the arm down as noted.. A "C" will have a gear box under the gas tank with the arm UP and  steering rod run to a second gear box under the radiator... The front wheels of a C can be narrow or wide front end, but always driven from this SECOND gear box.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.
