I am working on getting my AC stationary powerplant up and running. I thought it was a model B engine, but the number in the block is CR46664GA.....is this a CA engine designed for gasoline?? Also I thought someone had a chart made that you could identify the year of the engine off this number.....

From Bryans B / C / CA Serial number list your engine appears to be a 1945. Gary |

If you were camping you could belt a BIG alternator to it and use a DC power set-up type of thing. Thats what we do with our pop-up when attending tractor shows. Pop-up plugs into 2 deep cycle batteries that are in a box I built. We have a 10SI alternator belted to a 5HP Briggs....which is attaced to an old lawn edger. When the batteries get low just fir up the "law edger" and charge up the batteries.

Don, Early B's had the BE engine. Later B's and all C's and CA's had a CE engine. I think the CR had something a little different for the power units used on combines and as portable power units. Seems the CR might have been used in the RC but I might be mistaken.
I'm sure there will be somebody jump in with more or better information. |

The CR is for power units and I don't know of any serial # list to find out what year it is.

My 1941 C has an engine with a serial # R 16312 G. I don't know where that came from either. As far as I was told, there is no way to find out.

I think the R prefix can be either an RC motor or a power unit.

I think the R engine was used on the RC tractor and the CR engine was a Power Unit engine used on combines and balers. The ones used on combines had a shorter spring on the govenor, and run at 1900 RPM. These have a gear box on the Rockford clutch housing. I bought one with a straight shaft coming out of a Rockford clutch unit, also fitted for a starter. and it had the standard tractor spring on the govenor. Bob

on page 4 of my Parts Manual AC-P-B-C under the heading
Engines
CR- Prefixed number (3 3/8" bore, 1900 r.p.m. ) used in :
60H Gasoline Power Unit PU53977-B and up
60H Low octane Fuel Power Unit PU-55480-B and up
There must be a power unit serial number somewhere on your unit
Also noted is R prefix engines were used in 60H Gas power units prior to PU-53977-B

Thanks Ken
Maybe there is a tag on the clutch housing, I guess I never looked. The rad shroud has a CA decal on it, but I guess that dont mean anything
There is no gearbox on my clutch housing, straight shaft.
My enigne came from a sawmill

Also, I need a starter. The ring gear is on the flywheel, but it was set up as a hand crank as there is a plug in the starter hole and I want to change that. Will a B starter work?
