I was looking around at the local tractor junk yard and came upon this be ce engine that had a cast iron oil pan and valve cover. I have never seen a be ce engine with these covers on it .Anyone know what I am looking at?

I think it was a war time thing

wartime engine. Some came that way when cast was easier to get than steel.

War years B's and C's, I believe. there were at least three different styles of cast iron oil pans used, and one valve cover that I've seen. These referenced tractors also had cast iron final drive covers. The pans and covers seem to fetch around $75 each nowadays. The cast iron makes a much better gasket surface than their pressed steel counterparts.

thanks for the help and pictures I think i will slide on down to the junk man and see if i can buy this engine for less than for what the war cost the country.

I believe that the cast cover and pan add some extra fron weight on tractors in stock antique pulling classes, making them somewhat desireable. Cal in Ct.
