I'm hunting a 6-volt cutout for an Allis G.  What are other guys using?  Who sells them?

Thanks
Dick

Good mechanical ones are a thing of the past. We stock solid state ones that can be hidden under the original cut out lid if some fussing time is invested and you want it to look original.     $39.53       S>L>I.

We don't have near everything on our website. With over 1/4 million dollars on the shelf we would find it overwhelming. Just e mail or call.   Bill

It's probably best to just go 'solid state' under the hood. While I've got  a couple spares lying around, shipping to the USA would probably cost more than buying from one of the 'local' vendors. So much for 'free trade'.

If you're handy with a soldering iron, all you need is a 100V 50A power diode and 10 minutes to modify your original cutout.Unless the correct cops look inside no one will know !

Currently I'm looking at making an inexpensive 12V alternator conversion 'bolt on' kit,on that doesn't require modifying the rear cover.

When you make a cutout with a diode, you need to be sure to supply a heat sink for the diode because the best of silicon diodes will have up to a volt (minimum 0.6 volts) forward drop and at 30 amps that's 30 watts of heat to dissipate. A 50 amp diode hanging on wire leads won't survive that without melting the junction and shorting.

Yeah Gerald, yur right, but I use Shottky diodes and my G Genny can only dump out 15 amps , on a good day. These diodes only have a forward drop of .2 volt unlike the 'normal' silicon diodes that drop .6 volts. I always use a big heatsink. One day I should actually read the specs on them, cause no I'm thinking they might be 50 V, 100 Amp.
Gad, getting old is great...forgetting stuff, dyslexic, heatburn after eating my once favorite meats,....great....just great...
