what a bad afternoon

Got the old 770 out to brushhog about 6 acres yesterday.  Using dads old woods cadet 60 with a wheel kit to make it a pull type.  Anyhow, mowing along and KABOOM, the battery exploded in front of me.  It almost blew the battery cover open on the hood.  Luckily, no fire just battery acid running all over the place. This made me think I am going to get battery box and lid fixed on the WD in case this was ever to happen again.  Don't really want this explosion in front of my face and legs.   I think the V Reg must have stuck.   So I go get it cleaned up the best I can, get the WD out and get the blade off, hitch on, PTO shaft put back in it ( I had it off to use sub soiler), go hook up and work at finishing.  After about 30 min of mowing, I turned a corner and see it had quit spinning and the PTO shaft was laying down.  I thought the pin released and let the shaft come off...wrong.  The PTO shaft is sheared off at the PTO box, and the "tabs" that hold "pillow block" to rear end of tractor are broke off.  Eveidently, It didn't have enough collapse room, and got in a bind and broke.  Hate to think what today will bring

 I hate days like that. At least now you get to spend more quality time with both tractors.
 That lack of collapse room is a killer. I was backing a Little Red wagon (with about 450 bu of corn in it) into the shed once. The guy I was working for had shortened the drawbar for one reason or another. I had to turn just a tad to straighten it out and BOOM, the whole tractor shook. I had sheared the PTO shaft off flush on the back of the tractor. It was a 7045 so the fix was easy but cost $750 I think.
