Well it took a lots of 40 grit sanding, then 80 grit, then 180 grit and 320 grit, and then lots of glueing and clamping to get it ready for the oil finish plus 6 coats of poly. I think it turned out pretty good. It is also about 3" shorter now as the bottom was rotted.

Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

Apple, pumpkin, peach, rhubarb, pecan, chocolate, strawberry, coconut cream, and blueberry are some of my favorites that I would like to see in there.

Nice job. All the pie safes I seen have solid sides and backs with screen doors to keep bugs out.

That is lemon meringue with a graham cracker crust. But by the looks of that room the pie safe is in, all it will ever see is "wine, grapes and cheese".

Wasn't for sure how to spell meringue and it's not on top of my list but it is for my wife.  I was just trying to get Stan to get some pies in there.

Nice job Stan! Really nice wood that you saved. After thinking about it, I believe it would look good as a back bar. It looks like the shelves are spaced far enough to put bottles of your favorite potent potables on them. And even room for glasses.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I suspect this one will get family photos instead of pie unfortunately.
This pie safe from my grandma was her first one and it was placed in the back of the garage by my mom for her sister out in California. My aunt never asked for it to be sent out to her so it stayed in the back of the garage. Both my aunt and mom have passed and the pie safe remained in the garage..
My sister has my grandmas second pie safe (grandma upgraded at some point and mom got the first one) the second one my sister has is in better shape and has the tins in the front doors. She had it restored 30 years ago and it looks nice.
Mom and dads old house was torn down about 15 years ago but we saved the old garage to store junk in. It was a big task to go through it all and it was plenty nasty as the coons had been in there for a couple of years although I did thin them out with a good dose of fly bait and Coke. So it was by sheer luck that this pie safe survived as good as it did.
Oh and I asked my neighbor up there if I needed to notify or get permission from anyone before throwing a match in it. He said "nope". I should have asked for a second opinion or at least put a full page notice in the paper to let everyone know it was about to happen.
I waited until about 8pm so the wind would settle down and put the match to it. Those 4 to 5 layers of asphalt shingles made just a little, tiny, small amount of smoke that must have went to about 10 thousand feet as everyone within 15 miles showed up along with the fire department and the neighbors tank truck. It was quite the show. It was funny but not.🙄
