Iron men around here are really cleaning out groves sheds ect. Iron man called me last nite and said has Allis tractor which i think is a wd on his trailer and do i want it. told him i had to look at it. he said weighs just under 4000#. I hate seeeing any orange go to scrap but at $225. per ton it counts up. I know that$225 is what he gets as he showed me stub a while back unless iron went up. I did get the 7 botton monoframe plow that was going to the crush and will take pictures when i get it in spring.

No way it is that heavy, I moved a parts WD tractor with my 320 JD skidsteer. The rear tires and wheel centers where off of it. I picked it up easily, the machine is rated to lift 2200 lbs.

4,000# shipping weight. That's with hydraulic/rear end/engine oils and unloaded tires. Tires are heavy. I would guess about 3,000#. Just a guess.

Not bad for under $450 the rear tires are probably worth at least $300. I'd go for it.

I don't know about scrap yards in Iowa but around here you can't haul in a tractor, car or truck without prepareing it first. This means that you have to drain out the oils, antifreeze, and any fuel thats in them. You also have to remove the battery and tires. I know on the cars and trucks you have to remove the fuel tank and punch a hole in it so they know that it's drained then you can throw it in or ontop the car so they can see it. Also what is he getting $225.00 ton for? Is it #2 prepared heavy iron or dirty cast which a tractor is? Anyway i would take it. The distributor ign. set up is worth $100.00

If some one else wants it that would be great including you Ted. . I am going to stop and look at tires again. I didn't get actual price from him but think $450 would be tops. It has combine rims so didn't check tire size but i could sure use a couple good wd rear rims. was hoping for 2 good power shift rims. I like original equip.

I work for a salvage yard. The boss just sighned a contract last week for $310 a ton comeing next week and they crush it take it away. With the goverment,Ford GM and retire your ride our yard is full.We cannot sell the motor or any thing to do with emisions.Thats their plan its getting hard for me to find parts for customers 2002 and older unless it chinese aftermarket junk witch we sell too much of.Also cant drive to work without seeing a one ton flatbed loaded with farm steel.I will not be able to find anything used for My WD.Sorry for the long post I am 59 years old and dont like where we are headed no one will have a job.Brian |

Same situation down South. There's 3 large scrap processors here in Tuscaloosa and lines of trucks hauling everything you can imagine in every day. If its metal they want it.
The is a Nucor steel plant here too. And it seems to average 10 to 20 railroad cars of processed scrap going in and lots of coils and plate shipped out by rail, trucks and barges. Somebody ,somewhere is using all this steel !!

I'm going to guess 55 John Deere combine rims as my WD45 has the same look to it (although they are rice tires on it). Looks mean with them on there.

sometimes keeping everything is a good thing. If it was closer I'd offer. It's nice to be able to be offered to take it though before it goes. Be thankful for that
