Wd45 with mounted picker on hibid

Sale in earlham, iowa. Thought a single wheel narrow front under a corn picker was unique.

Thanks wjohn, did not know that. Now , give me reason to tell the family why i should drive to iowa and get it. Might be next fun project

Always more to learn! dr p, sounds like a fun trip to me.

Pretty handy when you overhaul the wide front on the tractor.

One of the challenges with older style AC pickers was lack of clearance in muddy/greasy conditions.  Unlike JD/IHC pickers there was no room under there for mud.  Not sure how a single front wheel would work but 2 wasn't great under those conditions.  Frequently required waiting for the ground to freeze.  Those pickers were ridiculed back in the day because they had no husking bed but actually didn't do that bad a job of getting husks off.

I was in earlham delivering honey to the grocery store and wondered where this was. I will drive back over and look around.

common sense says it is too far for me, but I haven't taken a midwestern trip since I graduated dental school and left for the Air Force 35 years ago.  Too long

Guys I went over and looked around this morning. I'm glad it was froze up. The tractor with the picker has had the front end broken and had been welded up. This man had 6 school busses on his property. They were all 6 piled full of junk. There were several enclosed trailers there all full of junk. There was a snap coupler blade there along with a3 point blade. There was a D19 there but I couldn't get close to it for the junk piled around it. There were scrappers there working on it. There was a little gal there in a 50x70'? Shed with a house broom attempting to sweep up. But there was so much junk in there she was sorta sweeping around it. There was a big ol pond that the machinery was piled around with a lane leading down to the pond. One interesting thing he had was a boat with an outboard motor on it and 4 wheels on it so it could run up and down the road. It had a motor in the boat to drive the wheels. It had stop lights,a license plate, and headlights. All the tractors I could see except the 400 IHC had the exhaust covered. There was a nice looking head trailer there with a massy grain table on it. There must be 100 cars and trucks there in various stages of scrap. It looked like 90% were fords, several larger ford single axle trucks,. Several elcamenos, a decent looking white Corvair, and a lot of stuff you couldn't see for junk.

I'm thinking about going back tomorrow and seeing if I can buy the boat/car. It would be neat to drive in our Covered Bridge Parade. I'm not sure I'd want to put it in the water. I might put some 15" mud tires on it.

I am a few miles away (25-30), so I am looking at the 45 with the wide front end for my 45.  Also the JD windrower with the V4 Wisconsin. How would I get it home?  Looks like this guy has a cap on every exhaust pipe, hardly ever see that!

Several had plastic pop bottles slid over them, top was cut out of the bottles. Guys I've been thinking about this auction. There was an older roll back truck there and a pretty good sized loader with forks on it. This place is a mile or two north of I80 and a mile or so east. A lot of these vehicles have no title, I wonder if they were abandoned on I80.

I looked at the auction from Goggle earth.  Not a real good way to inspect the stuff, but you sure get an overview of the place.  Lots of stuff, and depending on what you bought don’t know how you would get it loaded unless someone was there with a tractor to pull it out.
