I am putting a 230 combine engine in a WD45 and have located most of the parts, but the governer has me stumped. I know I have to do something different as it is for a combne and they eiter idle or run full speed. What do you other guys use to replace the combine gov? D19 gov?
Also can I use the combine carb or do I need to find a different one? Will one off of a 45 engine work?
Thanks
Adam

I have a WD-45 with a 262 Combine Engine installed. I am using a D-19 gov which allows it to run like a normal tractor. Safe as well!

Forgot to mention you'll will also need the starter off a wd-45D, Adapter plate, rad, and the speed control linkage that operated the injector pump. you can adapt this to work with the D-19 gov.

Just wondering if the Buda 6B230 parts like a Cockshutt 40 has would work.

Adam, is it the flywheel off a WD-45D? if so your good to go. you will also have switch engine pulley to a single pulley off a 45D. I also had to shave off the extra material on the inside of the steering box for room. Had an adapter made to lift the oil filter to avoid cutting the frame rail.

Yes its from a WD45D. Hmm. Didn't know about the pulley. WHat does you adapter look like, hows it made. I may go that route.
Thanks
Adam

How come a single pulley? I'd like to say I've seen 45D's with double pulleys on them. Is this one of those little things that crop up converting an original gas tractor?

I was told by a fella that knows Cockshutt's that a governor from a 153 Buda 4 cyl , cockshutt 30, or co-op E-3 will work, but the front cover , mounting plate, front engine mount, etc. needs to be swapped too. The supply of D19 governors is limited , so this may be an alternative. I felt lucky to find a D19 gov for my WC-262 project.

Governors from a 40 or 50 Coops and Cockshutts will work too.

In my neck of the woods a junk yard Co-op or Cockshutt would be harder to find than a junk yard D19. Would the same parts from a WD45D or D17D work? You might try an ad in the classifieds on this site.

To clarify what Zyta said. He installed his 262 engine into a WD-45 gas chassis. I think the diesels had the main steering box casting already machined for more clearance for the crank pulleys. D-19 governors are hard to come by! |

My 1957 45D was narrow front and it had almost a inch of lip cut off for a double pulley. But I put a wide front block on it and I could still get the belts on, but it was close. That is without cutting the lip off. One other thing , my early WD45D parts tractor has a single pulley on it because 1955 did not have factory power steering yet. Also the pulley is really dished out to the same place that the front pulley of a dubble is located.

Sandknob, I used the adapter plate from the combine engine. Calvin lent me one of his WD-45D adapter plates to use as a template.

I actually meant for your oil filter. I have an adapter from a WD45D for the bellhousing.
