You have the right idea but the hyd pump hole is not where you get at it.Been too many years since I did it but I think you gotta work through the hand clutch cover and the bottom of pto mount.Somewhere in there, there is room to slide the shaft fwd(?) and change out the intermediate gear.Dig in,you'll figure it out.Seems like there is a bolt that locks the shaft in place somewhere/somehow.Good luck and report back.

Brett,
Yup, that will work, pull the shaft into the hydraulic pump compartment. When sliding back in you will need to have the shaft in one location. It helps if you have a friend to hold the gear and the end washers in place. Send me a message if you want more info. I'll give you my phone number there. Jim |

I have the same problem with my old WD45. Just to clarify, is the best access gained by removing the hydraulic pump or by removing the hand clutch cover? I also have to locate an intermediate pto gear. Mine was damaged along with the PTO housing. I have the other parts, just procrastinating. Thanks

I should have that intermediate gear in stock if needed.
