The other day I was feeding some round bales of hay to the cows, Well Im useing a 1949 WD with a WD45 engine, I had the throttle as low as it can go coming off a small hill, The Nex thing i know the throttle/Gov went way way to high! So I come to a stop and move the throttle lever to high idle and back to low idle, The engine is still running way to fast, ,SOUNDS LIKE THE ENGINE WAS GONNA BLOW UP, Well I've adjusted the long rod going to the gov and the short rod, Now it stays in low idle just fine but as soon as I move the throttle the engine get faster and faster and there is no way to stop it so I have to kill the tractor,
the governor spring is good and the governor weights are there nothing missing,The weights move nice and free,

Also check the butterfly's in the carb, and the throttle spring under the Gas tank which pulls it back to idle. Just some other thoughts.

I can run the carb by hand and the tractor runs good, But I did take off the carb to make sure! The throttle spring under the Gas tank is there and New! I even took it off to see if that was the problem.

The govenor is not controling the eng rpm, look for linkage pin sheared inside govenor, may be tough to find. Usually it throws a govenor weight causes running wild. take the front cover off and pull the governor/distruber assy off the tractror and look and the linkage yokes and pins. Good luck. |

I can guarantee that you don't want to run a weight through the timing gears. The parts to put it back together after that are about $700!
