 Topic: WD45 diesel steering

We have a 1955 WD45 diesel with factory power steering. We know it's obviously a 68 year old tractor but we were hoping to tighten up some of the slop in the steering. We narrowed the majority of the slop to the front bolster/worm gear area. Is there anyway of tightening up the insides to improve the quality of the steering at road speeds? Thanks in advance.

I have a couple NOS sector gears for the WC/WD/WD45 tractors available. Unfortunately no worm gears though, maybe someone else will have a NOS worm gear.

If I’m thinking right, there is shims on the steering shaft that might take some slop out if the bearings are loose…
Someone correct me if I’m wrong…

The shims adjust the bearing preload. I don't think they will affect the gear mesh.

Joe, you are correct. Shims adjust for 0 end play with free movement
