I am looking to build a WD45 with a 230 gas engine (out of a combine), I guess a WD55 technically I think thats what they called them anyway.  There seems two be two bolsters on WD/WD45 tractors.  One has a "set in" on the side toward the motor while the other does not.  Are the ones with the "set in" made after the diesels came out to give more room for the diesel engine?  These are narrow front ends by the way.  Are the wide fronts set up the same?
Thanks
Adam

I have been informed that the WD-45 Gas ans diesel WF Bolsters are the same. Have been cleaning up a diesel bolster last few day's, do not have a gas WF bolster here to compare.

what i have been told is that the 4 bolt wide front end was introduced at the same time as the diesel 45 and was designed to accommodate the diesel. Chris/CT is correct in that the 4 bolt design was also used in all other 45s from that point on just because it was stronger than the 3 bolt of WDs and early 45s. but the earlier 3 bolt bolster wouldn't work with a 230
