what i've found to work the best is a slide hammer. just finished pulling out my second set of pins, last year did the WD now the WD-45. we welded a nut on the pin, then welded a pipe on the nut, then put another nut on the end for the slide hammer. used the fire wrench a little bit to help em come, but i highly recommend doing it this way.
Carl.

Great set of pictures, Carl - there's hope for those of us who have yet to try this! Looks as though rotating the bull gear case 90* is part of the recipe - yes? How heavy is that slide hammer?

yes, first time i did it, i pulled the pan, took out the bolts and twisted it 90* and ran a smaller bolt with washers and a nut. makes things much easier. the hammer is 5 pounds. we also had someone pulling on the end while another used the hammer. works pretty good

I'm thinking that the heating and cooling after welding on the end of the pin can't be a bad thing either. Might tend to loosen it a bit?

Thanks, Carl. I think Brian's point is right on. Definitely worth trying.
