I got my WD out of the garage today to move a little snow and try out the loader since I put now gaskets in it.
It started up and ran fine, I had the choke off and it was running good....drove it out of the garage.and then it started sputtering...not smoking or anything like it was flooded. Then it quit. No spark. Cked the fuse. It was burned out. (I have a fuse in the system so I can take it out at tractor shows etc..so it won't start if a child gets on and plays with it, I have a toggle switch for the on/off switch) I put in a new fuse. Tried to start it. No spark yet. I wonder if the condesnser went bad? I don't know why the 15 amp fuse burned out? I wonder if the switch went bad. I had a key switch go bad once and it did kinda the same thing. I didn't have time to do a lot of diagnosing on it. You guys have any tests I could run? Thanks Pastor Mike |

If the condenser goes bad(by shorting out),you'ld get no spark(same as the points being closed all the time) but it shouldn't blow the 15 amp fuse.
Normal coil---points system draws about 4 amps.
I'd put an ammeter in series to see how much current's being drawn, might have to 'bump' the starter a few times to close the points.
zero current being drawn could mean an open circuit or open coil.
A switch shorting out inside itself to ground can blow the fuse. That happens more than I care to recall with 'lawn tractors'.
Also check for some 'live' wire that's jiggled loose from where it should be and shorted to ground, had that happen once or twice.
Hopefully you've got a good wiring diagram! Just follow the power ,these tractpor's aren't too complicated !
Good luck
Jay

Is it 12 volt, with an external resistor? Our resistor went out and it was deader than dead-not sure about your blown fuse in that scenario. Greg

With a blown fuse, I'd look the coil power wire over closely looking for a bare spot from the fuse holder to the coil. Got a test light? You can see if the points are making and breaking the connection with a test light. From there, if it still has no spark try a condenser first, then a coil.
