i know there is a wc pulling hitch post which got me thinking that i needed one for my wd for next month. if it will be the same thing i will just follow the other post for the wc

Pretty much the same, you have more holes to use with the WD. If you are going to run a classs theat allows weight brackets, I suggest you use the four back holes on your WD. I have mine in the front four to help hold the front down, I will adjust now that we have moved up. You want your pulling point directly under the rear axel, I am in front a little, I garuntee it will make a big difference.

The tractor pullers guide also has a few pictures if you want a few ideas...Just check out the website....They dont have anything like what i need on there though. A few WD style hitches on there though to give you an idea.

positioning the drops to the position they are on a factory d 14 tractor makes a huge difference in how a wd reacts to the sled

Can you explain a little more Mitch? Positioning the drops? I have one WC that does very well but the hitch is kind of cobbled on there. If I build one for my new tractor and it works well I will be building a second.

dr allis put me on it years ago before the forum change . you turn the drops to lchange wheel base length . it takes relocating break pin . So i don't take anything away from him maybe he will weigh in with more details and with two talking about it may remove doubt on some as well . there's all kind of little tricks to better pulling one just has to know where and what to look for from wheel base changes to floating hitches.

Not on a "WC"!!!!! A WD-WD45-D17 can be assembled so the rear axles are rotated back one hole to increase the wheelbase and make the front end heavier. Most Antique clubs would never allow this. Been done for 40 years on 180's and 185's when they ran the 5,000 lb class and needed more nose weight. When doing this, the drawbar has to be completely redone to retain the drawbar dimensions of 20 inches high and 18 inches short from the center of the rear wheel.

While we're talking drawbars, there is a very common misconception that the way a drawbar is built or attached to the tractor makes a big difference in performance of the tractor. I don't care how it's done, but if the hitch ring/pull point is bolted solid so it cannot move up or down or sideways (which is the way good rules read---"bolted solid") it makes no difference if you're pulling from the engine oil pan or the top of the steering wheel. If the hitch point is at 20 inches high and 18 inches short and cannot move in any direction under load (that would include flexing or bending), the way the drawbar is connected to the chassis makes no difference in performance!!!

I think if you hooked the drawbar to the top of steering wheel it might be hard to steer.
