I just purchased a post hole digger for my WD. Does anyone know what weight oil I should use to fill the gear box?

I would guess to say 80-90wt. We use the same wt in our larger auger gear boxes at work.

Thank's for the information. That one's not mine. Mine is covered with a little rust, is working but in pieces right now. Here's a shot of my WD with my Case grain binder. There is a McCormick Deering corn binder in the background.

Harvey, You may need to put a seal and a bearing or two in and slow down that over lubricating of the auger. lol

Don, I sold it at a Consignment Sale last year for $30.oo Hope to run onto an AC sometime. Nice Binder but I like the single row next to it, less work, is that a #7 or #10? A WD-45 & a #7 make a good combination...Harvey

Here's another shot of my collection of antique farm equipment. Anything on steel, basically steam-era equipment. I think its a #10 left hand cut.

I have one with the same gearbox but the mount for the tractor slips over the lift arms like a wd farm crane. Mine doesn't have a plug for adding oil so I lay it flat, take the plate off of the back and fill it half full of 90wt. The bottom seal used to leak so I filled it with grease. Guess what. It lasted about 40 holes before I got the privelege of fixing the bearing and the seal. Nice unit though.

I know where one of those post hole augers are.  Do you guys think it will be a good candidate for mounting on a Pin Hitch CA?  I know I will have to make/modify the arms on it.

Here's the real thing. It my understanding that Allis didn't make a post holer for the WD, these were manufactured by a third party.

I don't think the angle iron welded across the two legs is original. I'm thinking about cutting it off. What is the handle that runs to the back of the seat for; is it forward and reverse, or an on and off switch?
