 Topic: WD Haybine Combo ?

Looking at getting an older haybine to use with my WD (rented more land for hay next summer and I don't think my sickle mower is going to work  ) Was wondering if anyone had any experience / suggestions / recommendations ? I'm assuming I'll have to get an older smaller model if I want to use the WD. Thanks !

You will be fine with any seven ft machine and unless you have extremely heavy hay you could use a nine ft machine. I mowed lots of hay for my dad using a wd45 and latter a D14 with a seven ft IH 990 haybine. Tom

We used the WD45 once and awhile with the haybine (9 ft). worked ok. Regards, Chris

My brother used a 9' new holland behind his WD for many years it worked fine. Couldn't find a larger one that would work with the avaliable single hydraulic system. It takes 3 remotes to operate the swingbine we use now.

With a straight stick WD a 7' is all you want. I try'd to use a 9' new holland 488 behind my WD45. I had new brakes on the 45, new tires filled with fluid. It was too heavy to use in heavy hay. It would push you all over the place going down hill

I used a JD 7' behind one------ once! Did o.k. in light stuff on fairly level ground. Had to put it on the JD 730-d on it and never looked back. Even small ones are heavy AND have side pull you would not believe ,---in good hay or grass you would struggle with a wd. hand clutch might save you but could end up slipping it a lot.
Its not the power thingy, its the weight that comes into play. 730 was twice the weight of the wd, plus had power steering, which you really do need on one of these.

I used a NH 479 behind my "CA" worked well but I never used it on any hills.

WD45, yes. WD no. WD is faster in low gear than the 45 + more HP. MACK

I would agree with the other comments about sticking with a 7' cut for a WD. I would also agree that you want to make sure that the WD is weighted some. Some of the better built haybines weigh just as much or even more than a bare WD does. Dad never hesitated to put our WD45 on the 9' NH469 haybine when the XT was otherwise indisposed. It sure helped that our WD45 runs @ 56 pto hp and weighs in @ 6K lbs. I would not even think about putting our WD on that haybine to run it.
