Maybe the 7 gallons of fuel escaped from the same hole that it went into?

Sparky: Well, my first thought was someone had liberated my fuel, but my top candidate is slow ooze around the stem of the shutoff valve.  It's not enough to even form a drop, but it is enough to be wet to the touch just after drying with a towel (but it's been fine in years past).  So I tightened the stem nut and will hope for the best when I return (but I'll try not to leave that much gas in it next time!)

Adjusting the packing nut usually fixes the problem let’s hope so. Good luck.

Yes, I do like to read to the bitter end and thank you for the update; so often we never do hear how things turned out Smile
