    Posted: 23 Mar 2018 at 6:46pm
Hi all, I have a D14 I've been working on.  The previous owner had rigged up a drawbar out of half of a WD drawbar and the yoke.  He welded all that together.  I ordered a replacement drawbar without realizing that he'd bolted the yoke to the D14's brackets and also welded it all into place.  I'm going to try to grind out the welds and take the homemade job off, but I'm not sure what the brackets will look like underneath, not knowing how good a welder he is (judging from the beads, I'd say not very).

I've been searching for some replacement D14 drawbar brackets but haven't found any.  If I get them, will I be able to use them?

Boy I wish we were closer ! I've got 2 sets of brackets and drawbars from D-14s collecting dust here. The brackets just bolt on,so they 'should' just unbolt and drop.
I've never used them since I made a 'carryall' that includes a 2" receiver. If I need a drawbar, I slide in a 'balless' sleeve, to haul trailer, slide in a sleeve with a 2" ball.
if you need pictures of the real D-14 bar and brackets ,let me know.

Thanks.  I have a bar and the brackets on the tractor are the original, he just welded them up badly.  Too bad you're not closer, but shipping alone would be crazy.  This was supposed to be a simple project that's turned into a major ordeal because I keep finding personal touches the previous owner added that probably were great for him but are annoyances to me.  Isn't that always how it goes?

That's called "CUSTOM" and "RARE".

But seriously... when you're on a farm, and something HAS to get done, things happen.  There's lots of people who can weld out there, and most learn-by-doing.  What's the best way to learn how not to make mistakes?

Make lots of mistakes.  Wink

To release welds, find all the planes that the weld exists in.  Determine which (if any) is the least accessible.  Use a cutoff blade (1/8 or 1/16") and cut deep notch down the center of each fillet, to weaken it, then pull the welds apart.  The least accessible is always the hardest to take apart, because it's the hardest to weaken.
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.

lol, anybody interested in a custom rare WD22.5 drawbar?

Thanks.  I know you do what you gotta do sometimes and have been guilty of it too often, but it's annoying when the guy told me, "You'll just need to pick up a new 3-point for the tractor.  I never used it and it got in the way of the drawbar, so I sold it.  Everything else is what came with the tractor."  If he'd have at least forewarned me about some of his custom work, I'd at least been prepared to undo it.  Still got a heck of a deal on the beast, so not upset, just a bit bemused at some of the thinking behind some of it.

Thanks for the tips on cutting the welds.  Getting ready to go out and work on it.  Here's hoping by the end of the day I have everything hooked up!
