Can a monitor be run on a WD's original 6 volt battery system if another battery was added  ?

you said "add another battery".... thats 12 volts !

best would be to install a 12v battery and new coil ( if its a distributor) and run it that way.. generator should charge a 12 v battery

Easy way is just hang a 12v battery on the tractor some where and charge it with a battery charger every so often.  Can't imagine an old school monitor needing that much juice.  You'd need to make the tractor 12v negative ground if you wanted to charge a 12v battery.
