Hello All, I have a 1956 WD 45 with a hand clutch that grabs hard when engaged even very carefully. No slippage when engaged, oil level is full, foot clutch is fine. It makes it hard to ease into anything.....Any thoughts on this??

Mine grab too! Thats another reason I dont like hand clutches! -- IF I wanted hand clutch I would use the green tractors! --- They sit for that same reason,---HAND CLUTCHES!
Linings in wd's could be gone, also the plates might be warped.

The Allis hand clutch is very durable and robust. They are just getting worn out and need some TLC. Once they have been rebuilt they will last for decades.
Take the hand clutch in the "CA" that most people complain about. It's the weakest clutch of them all. I rebuilt it in 1998 and I just had to rebuild it in 2019, that's 21 years. That was my main tractor (only tractor) until 2014. I worked that tractor hard. It did all the plowing, planting, cultivating, disking, cutting hay, baling, raking, harvesting and snow removal.

Once the clutch is rebuilt correctly it will not grab but be nice and smooth.
Thanks & God Bless

Dennis
