Will the WC Starter and Distibutor Points work off 6 or 12 volts?  I know the generator will be one or the other, but I was told the starter would run fine off either, is that correct?

I have my Dad's WD45 that was converted to 12v without changing the starter over forty years ago.  It has an alternator and a resistor mounted just before the coil.  You don't want to keep grinding on the starter if it doesn't start right away.

Starter doesn't care on voltage nor on polarity. Points dont care , nor does the distributor.

Coil does and needs to be 6V or 12V and polarity has to be right to tractor polarity.
Using a 12V on ignition without a resistor either external or internal will shorten point life and cause failure of contact or point arm overheating and bending.
