 Topic: Water Pump Repair DESPERATE

I found out today that the seal inside the water pump on my WC is shot. The same can be said for the one off the 1941 WC. When I put water in the radiator it just poured out of the pump where the shaft is at. This had to happen the weekend before the Renfro Valley show and the first time that I would take it somewhere. Is there anything I can do as a temporary fix? I will go to AGCO and order a new one but I doubt it will be here before show time. It took two weeks for oil pan gaskets for the Oliver to arrive. I don't want to be forced to leave my pride and joy at the house.

I might have to try that Charlie. I'm looking more for a backup plan, you know just in case. I wonder if it could be fixed for a while if I crack it open and try to Permatex that seal. I don't know, I'm just like the title says DESPERATE!!!

I got one from Jim for my WD a couple of years ago. He will ship it priority mail the day you ordered it if you tell him you are in a hurry. You could have it by Wednesday if you are lucky.

Trying to reseal a blown seal in a water pump is a losing proposition. Do what the guys above are advising.

have one of the suppliers that were referenced overnight the thing to you. You will have to pay the extra thought.
I got a part overnighted UPS from Sandy Lake.
Course if I recall, this is sunday.

Jeremy, If you have not rebuilt a water pump before then just get a rebuilt or a new one. I rebuild my but I have done pump rebuilds for years and I can sill break the water pump case if I'm not careful. Don

Seal is only part of it as bearing may be bad and caused seal to go out. Shaft wear, or type of seal also as many were carbon seal running on wear surface, not just a lip seal many think of .

So tomorrow I will try OK Tractor and see how much it would cost to have it overnight shipped or 2nd day UPS. I'm not looking forward to the cost but you know the saying YOU GOTTA DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO.

I bought some items from Jim a couple weeks ago and got them very fast and was a pleasure to deal with. Tony Carbaugh is good also, just try to spread the wealth around. In fact, I don't think I have had a problem with any of the vendors that advertise here. They are all top notch.

I don't know if this will work out, but what i've found here is what I can share about: 1. With the engine off and cold, open the hood and locate the vehicle's radiator and water pump.
2. Remove the radiator cap.
3.Install a pressure tester on the radiator. Apply the pressure indicated on the radiator cap or in the owner's manual.
4. Inspect the water pump for leaks. Remove the pressure tester.
5. Place a drain pan under the radiator. Open the drain valve or remove the lower radiator hose to drain the cooling system.
6. Remove the drive belts or serpentine belt.
7. Remove any hoses connected to the water pump.
8. Unbolt the water pump from the engine. Remove the water pump.
9. Using a gasket scraper, clean the mounting surface on the engine block.
10. Install a new gasket and attach the new water pump to the engine with the original mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
11. Re-install any hoses and belts that were removed.
12. Re-install the drain plug or lower radiator hose.
13. Refill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water. Pressure test the cooling system and check for leaks.
14. Check and fill the overflow reservoir with coolant.
15. Leave the radiator cap off and start the engine. Idle the engine to remove trapped air from the cooling system. Add coolant if necessary.
16. Install the radiator cap.
17. Road test the vehicle and monitor the temperature gauge. If the vehicle runs hot, there may be an air pocket in the cooling system. Allow the engine to cool off and add the necessary coolant.
