I have seen mention of washing soda on this site especially for cleaning radiators and engines of gunk. In one thread they mentioned Wallyworld for getting it.
Is 'washing soda' Arm and Hammer laundry soap? I searched Wallyworld
for 'washing soda' and came up empty. Whats the name for it?

It's a pool treatment chemical.Changes ph. Got one in the shop but can't remember name. SODIUM CARBONATE

Many laundry soaps may have washing soda in therm but you're looking for washing soda only. It is different from baking soda. Although I've been watching the selves at Walmart for several months I only found it stocked in December. Bought two boxes. Prior to that I purchased it from a pool service guy. It is cheap! Dish washing power may contain more washing soda than laundry. I'm sure better chemists than I will add to this tread.

I think it is also called "TSP" (TriSodaPhosphate). TSP works great for flushing out my tractors.

Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda.
Comes in a 55 oz. box.I bought a box of it (I believe at Wallyworld) last summer to get the "funky" sweat smell out of my work clothes when I wash them.
I used it back in the 60s to flush the cooling system in my Flathaead '50 Ford P.U.
Worked quite well but you would think there might be better alternatives today?
I think "Iron Out" contains Oxalic Acid.
Oxalic Acid Crystals can be bought in a drug store.
Years ago we had a real bad rust build up in our dishwasher and someone told ust to buy the Oxalic Acid crystals and run it thru a cycle; you would not believe how it took the "red" out!
I don't remember how much I used but I had purchased a 1 lb. bottle and I think there is more than 3/4 of it left.

We used SPREX for pre-cleaning metal before coating it with photo-resist for chemical milling process. Used in a hot tank for soak and dip cleaning. We also used it in electrolysis cleaning before milling process to remove any residue left and any surface oxidation.

I have bought the Arm and Hammer super washing soda in Publix and Bi-Lo grocery stores. I use it in my electrolysis tank. Have not tried it for radiator cleaning.

Ted you won't find it around here. Go to the pool department and get sodium carbonate . It's used to increase ph in pools. I have some around somewhere. Same stuff to use for electrolysis rust removal.

You could take regular baking soda and put it in an over to make your own washing soda. At temperatures above 300°F (149°C), sodium bicarbonate decomposes into sodium carbonate.

According to my Merck chemical index, washing soda is the decahydrate of of sodium carbonate. And sodium bicarbonate is made from sodium carbonate, water, and carbon dioxide. Merck says that sodium bicarbonate looses co2 at 50C and by 100C is sodium carbonate. In a water solution it begins to break up into carbon dioxide and sodium carbonate at 20C and completely on boiling.
The sodium carbonate decahydrate known as washing soda is also known as sal soda, natrite, or natron.
