My oldest brother just sent a link to a tractor for sale near him and wanted to know what I knew about them It is a 5020,nice looking tin and paint except a dent in the front of the hood. Supposed to have 1400 hours on it. It has a 66in mower deck and 3 point blade, turf tires and tire chains. Asking price is $4500. Any thoughts on price and reliability?  Charlie

is it 2 or 4 wheel drive ?    I have a 5020 is great I use it as rototiller and lawn mower tractor.  I love it great on fuel.  I would say 4500 is too much

2 wheel drive. I thought I would send him a link to Greg's D19TD and tell him to buy a bush hog for it. Somehow I don't think that would qualify as a lawn mower though.

Good little tractor, do tend to overheat, no live PTO, great on fuel, the safety switch part of the key goes bad (just jump the starter post), have held their value.  I had a 1981 for 12 years before upgrading, got back what I paid new for it.  I used a belly mower with electric clutch so live PTO was not an issue.

There is a sweet 4x4 in Bend Oregon, the guy had it on Ebay for 3600. No loader so the 4x4 probably wasn't torn up.  There is another one out here with a loader on CL , but it has front axle problems....

My father-in-law had one for a few years.  Great for mowing, he had a 3-point mower, and good with the blade.  His was a 4wd with a loader and the tractor was a little light and under powered for heavy lifting (driveway gravel).  Don't remember the loader number but it came original on the tractor and was just too big for the tractor.  Ran great and he never had over heat issues (n-central IL) but it is an air-cooled engine.

Hope this helps.
Don

Safetydon,
Better look  again at your AC 5020, because there is a RADIATOR up front!! Or somebody put some thing else in there.
