Generator Die Hards/Supporters

Regarding Mechanical Voltage Regulators, I would like to add a couple of key learnings I experienced recently when I performed a complete rebuild of a 1965 D17 Generator and installed new VR on the tractor.

Points
ensure the points inside the VR are clean and will conduct properly when closed, even a new unit

Grounding
clean metal (not thru paint) contact between the generator frame/tractor and VR frame/tractor to ensure good conductivity right back to the battery ground post

Polarizing
Remember to polarize EVERY time the Generator/VR/Battery circuit is disconnected

Thanks. X100 on the grounds. Just had that on a guys 460. The regulator is under the fuel tank on those. A lot of dremeling with a wire brush and it was good to go.
