Looking for cold clearance for the valves on my D17 diesel. My owners and service manual only gives hot clearance which is .010” intake, .019” exhaust. I have the fuel tank off preparing to paint so I can’t run it now. But I would like to check the valves now if I can find cold clearance value.

I buy the 19 VS 22 but the 10 VS 17 seems excessive. Typical hot VS cold seems to run .003 looser. Maybe this engine is unique?

Difference between cold and hot setting is usually .002. Allow 2 thou more for cold setting.Smile

Cold is usually a better way to do it. More accurate. If you are trying to do hot first one is hot, next couple are less hot. Last one may be cool depending how fast you are.I am not very fast in my old age but am exact! LOL.

I will agree with that, verified with a few others and their manuals say .010 and .019 also. So .012 and .021 is what I will use.
