Here are examples of used vehicles that are now more expensive than new. iSeeCars analyzed more than 1 million new and used cars listed for sale during the first half of November. It compared the asking prices for new vehicles (2021 and 2022 models) with the asking prices for lightly used ones (2020 and 2021 models with between 10,780 and 16,171 miles on the odometer). |

People wanted better machines, new were out of the equation so 'Lightly Used' became the big draw. Sadly many that a year ago would not have brought half as much were being sold to these buyers many at above original List prices, and they paid it for whatever stupidity reason. I still have a 22 year old truck and a 12 year old car, LONG paid for that drive and use gas, require maintenance yet are dependable so why this mad rush went on is beyond me. A year from now most will depreciate 50+% and will be buyers remorse.

I’m constantly seeing used cars and trucks roll through here on car hauler trailers.
I noticed the Ford dealer had several used vehicles last time I went through town. I recently saw a 92 F150 bring $20000. Was a nice truck but nothing special . Had 87000 miles. 2x4 short bed. Not long ago would have been $2500 |

I believe it’s moving from the nice low mileage newer used on in to the worn out used market.
This will put the hurt on the working poor. |

saw a TVtickertape that new ones are 10% inflation, used 34% inflation. Makes perfect sense, nobody can afford a new car, IF, it can be found and guys WITH used KNOW this, thanks to the instant access internet and media. Wonder what my '97 F150 with 85,000 miles on it would bring?

I ordered and bought anew truck this year. Ordered in February, received it in July. Dealer told me I could sell it for 10 grand more than I paid for it . He asked if he could give my phone number to some customers desperate for a 3/4 ton . I told him no as I do not plan in selling and don't want to be bothered. He didn't give my number out but he has called me several times to see if I have changed my mind.

Just heard from HVAC guy, furnaces going up 15% here in Ontario ! I'm guessing the HUGE demand for them in NE USA, KY, and now BC has something to do with the 'supply and demand'. They got the supply, they DEMAND more money.

Except they don't have supply.
Week and a half ago, wife got up to get ready to go to work (you know, the ICU that's full of people that have that disease that most of you think is no big deal) tells me, house is cold and no hot water. Great. Been trying to finish crops around this horrible weather we've had and I don't have more than a dozen chunks of wood cut. Call a company to come have a look. They got there by 7:30 a.m., which was appreciated. Poked, prodded, cleaned a couple things and told me, "Better get some firewood cut." Flame controller board is toast, $3800 and 4 months out!!! Holy schniekes!! Was telling me he was working on a rooftop unit in a nearby county courthouse. Patching up the heat exchanger to limp it along, until they could get a new one. Called for a quote, guy says May, best case scenario probably longer. My repair guy says, well, kind of a special build, so not too surprising.....asked the company if they'd quote him one so he could get it on the way. "Can't quote it until January". What the heck, why, what difference does a month make for quoting? I mean, I get the price might move some. Company said, no, you don't understand, May of 2023, and I can't quote it until January 2023! If I didn't have a wood set up, I'd be out of heat with a frozen house for I don't know how long (current unit is only 14 years old btw). A public building a couple counties away is living on a patch for a year and a half plus. How many people will be without heat between now and then, as we're just getting started!

A friend of mine who manages a sign shop told me he used to buy 5 rolls at a time of vinyl for printing wraps for trucks. Now they will sell him only get one at a time, at full price, no volume discount. When he quotes an aluminum sign, the quote is only good for that day as the price of aluminum is so volatile, he might loose money on the job after that one day quote. I read where some of the Ford dealers are in trouble with the company for jacking up the price of an E Mustang by $10,000 over MSRP.

Local individual just had a furnace check up , tech red tagged furnace and said it was out of service and a new unit would be $7,000 and a week out to install . Said that price quote was for that day only as their stock was low and could not say if they would have size needed the next day .
Friend had lease just about at end on car - checked on new lease and was told price was up - so checked buyout on lease papers against blue book and by buying the lease out he could sell the car for $ 8,000 more than buyout price if he just bout it out. Seems the full idea of inflation and shortages of many things is creating a phantom economy where all are going to suffer .
Then bought gas yesterday $ 2.87 a gallon at Sams Club - across the street it was $ 3.14 a gallon at Speedway Shopped for some groceries and bread I normally buy is 50 cents higher on 2 loaf pack but almost a dollar lower at Sams than buying 2 loaves separate at other stores . Eggs went crazy on price also , then looking at the price of beef - they almost need a guard on those cases as I seem some prime roasts for near $ 100 a chunk |

I don't know about you guys but I am about sick to death with anything that has a printed circuit controller, my golly you can't buy anything without a computer in it, stoves, refridgerators, dish washers, dryers, it has gone totally stupid I wonder when they plan to put a computer on a hand crank can opener. The wife had a fancy Magic Chef stove, computer diskobobalated and the stupid p/c was more than we paid for the stove so we now have a 1940's very nice O'keef and Merrit with pilot lights, remember them?

I agree Tad......... computer boards cost TOO MUCH for replacement parts..Would sure be nice if there was a BYPASS switch to just wash and rinse for a washing machine..

Covid deal has me working from home permanently. Decided to sell a 2 year old Taurus and was just going to drive my truck. Got $2,500 more than I paid for the Taurus and it had an additional 15k miles more than when I bought it.
Decided to buy a Jeep (mid-life crisis).....used were selling $2k more than new and 1/2 out of warranty. Bought up a new one just off the truck and the Sales guy said he could turn it for me for $7,500 more than I just paid....I kept it!
Not so lucky on an equipment trailer...had my eye on one that I'd priced out a year ago...went and looked again price jumped 50%! Decided I'd just wait a bit on that one. |

Guess we did ok with the new heat pump system installed last month up at the farm for $5500. Uses propane as the backup if it gets too cold.

Just had an 80K /95% eff furnace installed in garage, including some new 'transition' ductwork, gas piping, electrical total was 2000 Canucks. The MAJOR problem with 'computer chips', is that designers will NOT reengineer their products to use alternative 'brains'. When I was design/build energy control systems, I learned real fast(when Motorola skrude me) to find a second source for the 'brains'. A SIMPLE 'daughter PCB' allowed for an alternative 'brain' to be used. One reason for using computers in everything, is that from the get go ,they are CHEAP and easy to 'upgrade'. A 25 cent computer(my cost, any day of the week, always in stock..) on a PCB easily replaces the mechanical timer we all know that was the 'brains' of a washing machine. If you wanted to, yes, remove the PCB and a couple of switches...it's that easy. what isn't is going up and down stairs every few minutes to flip them ,as required, to get the laundry done.....
