Looks like its a little cool down there... and no snow.
Windchill suppose to be -35 below this morning...
So, when you got the HD7 out of its hole, did the tracks roll?
What was the story on the old girl?
engine siezed tight?
you said moved it over the hill to an auction line... somebody else selling out or are you guys cleaning up?
and when is this auction going to take place?
More info please...
Was hoping for close up pics of it...
Thanks for letting the fellers on this site know about it...

Hello guys,
Its not so cold here, 40's but with 40mph winds! The HD7 is owned by my step father who sadly has had several strokes and is not getting any better with age. I can't ask him for answers but from what I have heard it has probably been parked since the early 80's. I guess he used it to remove some trees, fence lines snow etc. and one winter the clutches burnt out again and it was parked until yesterday. We are going to tinker with the engine next week, I'm very opptimistic its going to purr again. Anyhow since farming has been leased out and all good equipment out here is just sitting around giving the mice a home its time to let everything go. And since were having an auction its time to clean things up. The auction is March 4, 2014, sad day. The stepfather does have 35ish 2 cylinder johny poppers that are staying but otherwise it all goes.
Included some closer-ups of the HD7 and a few other things, D-7 kitty, roadgrader, and a scraper I've made lots of memories with. http://www.rozmiarek03.com
Thanks for the intrest. Ted,

JC,
Almost forgot, yes the tracks free rolled, damn near crapped myself! Also on these pictures if you view the larger size on the pictures option I think the details may be alright.

Ted,...Tracks rolling freely are a plus.
I didn't see any pics of the D-7, grader, or scraper.
Is the auction going to be advertised on the web when the time comes?
To bad there is so many miles between here and there.
Thanks for the close up pics of the HD7,

Hey JC,
The auctioneers website is http://farmauction.net/. He just came out and took photos this afternoon so it might be a few days before he adds anything to the 3/4/14 auction. Don't know if he does proxy bids or whatever they are called. If I wasn't so poor at the moment I would buy the critter, but the only thing cheap about a dozer project is buying it. Speaking of that I'm still trying to find bottom rollers for an IHC T340 (named munch) that I'm playing with. I hope the HD7 finds a home other than a scrapers yard, to bad my orders are it goes on the auction.

Was just over on the auction site http://farmauction.net/ , Why aren't you taking over?
You can own land but, it will take years for anyone to get momentum back up to where this place was at if anyone of the family wanted to take over... Can't be dry forever...
Well, I am glad it isn't my call. Got som pieces there that are very interesting... just a fact that theres to many miles between here and there.

Hi JC,
Well I'm number 5 in line and getting started in farming is super expensive... Millions here. Was going to try to get the HD7 to turn over, but its been sub zero most of the time and windchills! Tommorow will be warmer finally so I will postpone my endless coyote hunting and give it a try. Hope things are well your way.

Before trying to start that old jimmy diesel, take the valve cover off and make sure the injector control racks are moving freely. It's likely stuck in wide open throttle, so if it starts up, it'll run away. It'll really lose value then lol! Be careful.

Hey all,
I was running a loader at the auction and missed pretty much everything, found out later my brother bought the HD7! Not sure why he just thought it was going to cheap and all things with tracks are nifty. The road grader went for 5,100, I had gotten that pony engine running perfect after just pull starting it for 12+ years don't know why I didn't fix it sooner.

Hey JC,
Ya, in fact today I had time and spent six or so hours on it.. Removed the entire blade assembly, not so easy, then the grill and radiator. Of course everything was seized tight to put it lightly. Got to the crank shaft and after much persuasion I can only get one full turn then its stuck tight.
Anybody have some ideas on what I should check next?
I ran into something similar once before on an old hercules engine and the problem their was a seized magneto of all things....LOL

If it moving a full turn, it is likely a bent rod, making contact somewhere in its travel. Just a SWAG, but I'll stick to it till proved wrong.

a rusted cylinder could cause the same problem. can you turn the crank back the other way. one nice thing about gm diesels you can remove the air box covers and see if the piston is traveling up and down, that would eliminate the broken rod but not a bent one.

Thanks guys gives me some good leads. And yes I can move it back clockwise the same full turn then solid resistance again. I pulled the valve cover and tried to free the fuel rack and promptly sheared a roll pin but thats minor stuff. Thought about a good diesel soak for a few days but ya I'm thinking its a bit more then corrosien. When I drained a bit of oil yesterday their wasn't even a drop of water at the bottom of the pan which is interesting.

Take the airbox covers off and look at the pistons via the air intake hole in the sleeve... maybe you might find crud dirt etc? I never have tried to look up to the top in a cylinder like that but maybe a bit of rust at top end?..
Had carbon fall down on a JD R diesel and it ws at the bottom and would not allow the cylinder to go over till I took the head offand got the carbon out.
Keep looking... Check to see if the clutch is disengaged too...
Are you sure you are going a full 360? not just 40 degrees? or 280... that could be stuck valves... all valves on top are exhaust valves. Let us know what you find... JC

Hey all!
It's unseized!!!! Went in through the exhaust and found the manifold packed with millet and mouse crap. Took that off, blew out the ports, manifold back on, two gallons of diesel and waited. About five minutes later all is GOOD. Will post some pictures later.

Careful when you get it going it doesn't go wot on you, jimmys will do that. Have the intake air cleaner off and have a clipboard handy to suffocate it, good luck and glad it stayed in the family, Trev.

Ted, Looks like you really are after that old girl to get it going. Sure changed the appearance taking the blade off. Glade to hear she is going all the way around now.
On those old crawlers, they were foot engage of the pinion and then it would contact the contacts. mayb some corrosion? Check and see if the brush springs are still holding the brushes in place. Clean the armeture... make sure you have current down at the starter.
Thanks for keeping us updated... I want to see a vid of her rolling smoke. LOL
