 Topic: trailer plug extension

I have a 4 prong flat plug in on my pickup for trailer lights. The have a spring loaded dust cover over the plug in that when there is a plug in it the spring on the cover is so strong it bends and clamps the wire against the plug so tight it won't be long and the wires will start breaking off. Is there an a longer plug made like an extension to get the wiring out past the cap? Or what do you do?

I just use a 4pin to 7 pin adapter and use the 7pin receptacle these days... the original 4 pin setup rotted away after 20 years for some 'silly' reason.... I keep TWO adapters in the truck.......

i did the same as Jay right up front. Been that way for bazillion years, well maybe only since 2012.

yeah I gots adapters too, just gotta remember to put them in whatever vehicle i'll be using at the time. one time I had to puts a toothpick shoved in one to hold it in contact, guess they wear out too.

Modify the cap, or break it off! I don't use the four plug anymore, but have the 7 to 4 IF I ever need one. The last 4 I had, I cut the cap off then plugged in an old pigtail to keep dirt out.---wont do much for water.

I would search the net for what you are looking for. You may also want to do a search for a 90 degree adapter. That may solve your problem.

Gary, I took my flip caps off. Maybe not the wisest thing to do? But I use both plugs for remote pumps. I cant have the caps and have both plugs in place. Maybe apply some protective grease on the contacts if you remove the cap? Regards, Chris |

yes, LOTS of 'electrical' grease...clean them real good first though.... any 'salty water' residue will allow electrons to flow, usually the 'brown' wire connection( next to 'white') will corrode first, probably cause tailights/running lights are on more than brake/turns are....
you can also toss in a 'plug tester' to 'fill the void', again well greased....
