Ok so I am now an Big Time Operator orchard man as I have done by second pass of my orchards with a 100 gallon air blast sprayer in the D17.... The D17 Is just heavy enough to handle the 100 gallons...I would prefer a heavier tractor. The hand clutch is a no go. Because of how I spaced my trees, I need to constantly shut off and on the electric spray switch with one hand, drive with the other. To not do so will waste a lot of spray. Also there are times when I want to do a tree slower utilizing the hand clutch so to keep PTO going but My hand is too busy. So what I need is a tractor that is a bit heavier, AND one that allows me to "creep" when I need to with a foot clutch (one that is built for such activity) whilst keeping the PTO going. Is there a AC that fits the bill, or another brand? Tom

![]() What I want in riding the clutch other than the hand clutch is not to be found or not good for the clutch I suppose. I guess in modern terms what I want is a I tractor with hydro ground speed control and independent PTO. ...Run the sprayer switch with one hand, hydro ground speed and steering on the other. Going slow and straight and with power steering I would think the one hand could do both. |

I don't know what your budget is. If you can afford one, an International with a Hydro would probably be the cat's meow for you. If you can't, and are looking at something with a gear drive, I'd look at an old Case with Case-O-Matic (730 or 830). I bought an 830 last month and love it. You can crawl along slow in the Case-O-Matic mode, but the way that system works makes it so you can almost drive the tractor with the foot throttle like it's a car. If there's a large load, you release the foot clutch and the tractor will just sit there until you give it throttle. C-O-M is a torque converter system, so a high load with no throttle means you sit there just like you would in your pickup. It's not an Allis, but for what you're doing it might be just the ticket

Assuming a tractor with CVT isn't in your budget, then I would go with Matador's idea.

I'm probably wrong (It's my specialty!), but the IH Hydro is the only true older Hydro I can think of. For what you're doing, a Case-O-Matic would make a lot more sense than something like a Deere Powershift I'd think. Those old Case's go pretty cheap if you can find one in decent shape usually- a lot of people don't understand how to run a Case-O-Matic (Not all 730's and 830's had it- it was an option), so they don't bid on them. It's simple, but different for sure

How about an AC 7000? Independent PTO, three shifts (low, medium, high) on the go in every gear. It's heavier than the D-17, but still pretty nimble. Reliable turbocharged 301 engine.
I loved my 7000. I think it's just what you are looking for ! |
