Has any one ever bought tractor insurance from Hagerty Insurance from Traver city Michigan. My state farm broker says he can't write a policy for the tractor, Hagerty gave a really good price on covering our tractor. Do you know of any other insurance companies? I drive in tractor rides and parades with my tractor.

This topic has went round and round with me too and I have State Farm Ins also. All my tractors are covered as long as they don't leave the property. Soon as I put them on a trailer they consider it commercial. I can't even take my mower of to the inlaws to mow there yard. Now I do move my mowers and tractors all the time but its on my dime if something happens. I just hope its the other guys fault.

 I have had experience with Haggerty on collision damaged classic cars in my  body shop and their claims service is 2nd to no one. That is why you buy insurance , for the payout if you have a loss. . I spoke with them about insuring a WD45, the only time it was not covered was when tractor pulling or if you use it in a farm type activity, so they fit in with a collectors parade  and in transit, loading and unloading activities.  GH

I just renewed my Haggerty poilcy today. It covers 6 tractors. a street rod and an old Corvette.

Have my tractors insured through Tri-State Agency of Ia., part of Continental Western Insurance.  Value and Liability. They also insure classic autos.  800 533 0303

State Farm says NO to tractor insurance off property! and the thing that ticked me off the most was because it wasn't a plated vehicle. My friends that have country companies insurance and belong to a farm bureau so they can get there tractors on a riders policy that covers them on rides and at events. I would also like to address the clubs insurance question too, when at a club event or function were are covered but not once we leave or travel to or from the function.

My homeowners has a rider for my tractor, cost me $15.00 per year to keep it safe.  Anyone steals it, I drop it in a hole and destroy it and they pay me what I have in it or to fix it.

I learned State farm is worse than worthless call Mike Della Pia at Boyers in Manistee he has taken very good care of me.  When I switched he could insure me with equal coverage for half of state farm.  Very can do

Haggerty is the top insurer of antique cars and by far the best on collector tractors. They understand and cover all perils associated with how we use and transport these tractors, farm insurance companies leave a lot of holes in your coverage. Cheap rates are easy to find, coverage when you need it is what you ought to be looking for.

I have about the same deal with MO. Farm Bureau as you do, They said I was covered to farm with it, drive it on the road, or haul it on the trailer.

have Haggerty on my 68 datsun,cheap and full coverage. They know that people who spend time,effort, and money on their passion will do every thing to protect that investment, even that hd6 yard orniment.

My tractors are covered under our farm policy through Farm Bureau. A number of years ago (before I had the farm) I went on The Great Iowa Tractor Ride and they were requiring proof of insurance. Farm Bureau was a sponsor then and when asked if they would write a policy to cover me on an event they were involved in, F.B. refused to. Seems like an independent agent for Pekin Insurance was finally able to write a liability policy.

I priced them out last year and it was 160 for the year to cover my 3 antique tractors.

We have Farm Bureau for our home, my tractors, and my very small business.

I had always thought of State Farm as being OK, but a couple of years ago I needed to insure a car in Florida, so I stopped at a State Farm office near our park and asked about how much it would cost to insure a car in Florida if I were to buy one. They we will give you a "Quote", which they did. We bought the car and the policy at the price they quoited. A few weeks latter after we got home, we left the car in Florida, we got a letter from State Farm, they raised the fee on that policy a considerable amount and billed us for the addition amount. We paid but did not renew the policy with them.

We have a neighbor who does storm damage repair for insurance companies. He has said State Farm is harder to deal with. On roof/shingle damages where other companies will say replace the roof, State Farm will only replace the damaged shingles.

I will NOT deal with State Farm again.

Sorry maybe I shouldn't have posted this.

Have a State Farm farm policy that cover my tractors at the retail value that I placed on them......example WD45= 2,500  D12 SeriesIII restored = 9,000   cost is based on x dollars per month for each 500.00 value I put on them. Have not had to use it yet and hope I don't have to.

Many, many moons ago, when I was just out of College, I had my own place, didn't live with parents but had a State Farm policy with the same agent as my parents. I had a lead foot in those days and they cancelled my policy when I got a restricted license. They then turned around and cancelled my parents policy too, waited two weeks to tell them tho... None of us have state farm now....

Hi guys, new guy here.  Long time reader, first time poster, ha ha.  Picked up a family WD45D this winter. 
I have been looking into insurance for a few months.  I need liability insurance on my tractor to go to a plowing contest in Ontario.  Kind of difficult when I don't have a home or farm land to insure. 
 
I called Haggerty and they will only match the liability that you carry on your daily driver vehicles. And, no farming activities, just parades and shows. 
 
Max(ia): how is your policy written on your tractors?  I looked up Continental Western Group and Dad's agent at home is an agent for them, and I have had a difficult time working with Dad's agent.  The agent seems to think that the only thing I can get is a commercial policy.  I don't see why I can't piggyback off of Dad's farm liability policy (he owns land, doesn't actively farm, but I imagine the risk is the same to the insurer).  You know, if Dad and I were farming together without forming an LLC, would we have to carry seperate policies or couldn't we just share one? 
Any other ideas?

I have been insured with Hagerty for some time now.
The best test was when one of my driver backed into a brand new car at a tractor show
and the owner of the car,  later told me that Hagerty was the VERY BEST insurance company that he had ever worked with. Now that is the test. I had over 50 tractors insurance with them once upon a time. Now I am down to 10 tractors, because I had
a tractor sale, two years ago.

After a few run ins with State farm we switched to Auto Owners about 15 years ago and they are A-1. They insure my 12 tractors for the values I place upon them for chicken feed. They are covered in transportation, shows, at the shop and also for liabilities at shows.

Ploughman, My tractors are insured like a car, under their Collector Car Program.  Liability, property damage and medical.  As I said before, am insured through Tri-State Agency of Ia. Ten Roundwind Rd., Po Box 500, Luverne, Mn.. (part of Continental Western) I don't deal with a local Agent.  Phone call would be best in my opinion.  800 533 0303.   Hope this helps         Max

I just finished up with my application from Hagerty Insurance, they will insure the tractor and hay rack for $140.00 a year. I would like to thank all the members for the great response to my question. I also wanted to pass along on thing I found on Hagerty's site about special events, I am now able to be covered if hired for parades or fall hay rides too. If you want to see it, here's the link.
