Any newer tractor as tough as the WD? Something you can 'slip' the clutch on without fear of burning it up when you get into tough brush hogging.

Hydrastat tractors can be run in an infinite number of speeds, many tractors have way more gears with creeper gears where the tractors can be slowed to a crawl. And lastly there are tractors with much more HP so they can go right on thru the rough stuff

You can slip the clutch on a newer tractor with a wet clutch until the cows come home. Is the tractor as tough as a WD? Probably. Will maintenance costs be higher? Yes, considerably. Will the initial purchase price be higher? Definitely. Can you justify a $30,000 tractor only for brush hogging? No. |

The way things are going, $30,000 for brush hogging will be considered cheap!

You will be hard pressed to find a new tractor that will work for you for 60+ years that the WD has done. You can slip your hand clutch on the WD all day as long as you have oil in it. They are one tough unit, can't be beat for the cost.

We run a WD here on the farm for 50+ years. I keep up with the maintenance and repairs and it still does the job. Every once in a while I get the itch for a newer tractor. After looking at the prices and condition, the old WD looks pretty good. I suggest you go looking for another tractor, you just may find the "old WD" looks pretty good.
