Hello my fellow a.c. friends. First post only because I usually get on here at work and for some reason when I try to post to the forum it says I dont have permission because of cookies or firewall issues. Probably firewall because I checked my cookies and that looked good.
Anyway, I was out pheasant hunting and saw an unstyled wd with two row corn picker attached sitting out in a farmers bone yard. I didnt have time to stop and talk or even get a picture. So my question is, what would a person offer a farmer for this piece? I know I am asking a lot by not giving any particulars but lets just assume the worst of everything and it is all scrap. I know I saw a post the other day saying the corn picker weighs about 1800lbs so about 200 in scrap. But what about the wd? Sorry for the long winded post. This is hard trying to type on a phone.? It must be a unstyled WC. They didn't make a WD that way. I'd day maybe 200 for the tractor also.

ST, thanks, I figured 500 would be my offer. Just didn't want to pissed off the farmer with a low offer.

If it runs -- I wouldn't have a hard time giving a $1000 - $1200. From there going down depending on condition - tires, etc.

It depends on how bad you want it. A WC, without tires, probably weighs about 2500 lbs. (or less). If you wanted to scrap it, you would go by that, but most guys on here aren't looking to scrap it, so, my opinion, it is worth a little more than scrap price.
I, personally, would love to own an AC tractor with a mounted corn picker, so I would be willing to pay more. Unfortunately, there are no mounted pickers in northern NY state (that I know of). Someday, I am going to find one and take a road trip... |

Thanks for all the input so far. Like you wf owner, I would just lij e to have one and would pay more but, if possible, would want to pay as little as possible.

If its already in the farmers scrap yard. then $500 might be about right. Condition would mean a lot.

Welcome aboard Jacob,
It might be better for you to go talk to the farmer first, ask about the WC and picker, talk to him about things like did he work the old gal get him to tell you the story about her and then ask what's wrong with it then the price, I don't use words like "it will weight out at" or crap like that it might make him mad, get some pics and then come back here to ask the guys more INFO. |

If you do end up with it I have a corn picker adjustment wrench, not sure what model picker it's for but do know it fits the slip clutch adjust nuts on a picker that was mounted on a unstyled WC Bought it at a auction cuz nobody knew what it was for and after I won the bid a old guy came over and showed me what it was for.

I think Don gave you excellent advice. A lot of equipment is sitting there, rotting away, because someone hates to see it go. If you can start a dialog with the guy, tell him you intend to try to restore it and maybe even ask if he could give you some pointers on it.
A while back, I stopped to ask a guy if he was interested in selling a WC. He was quite hostile when I first stopped and told me it wasn't for sale. He thought I was a scrapper. After some AC conversation and he realized I knew a little something about AC equipment, he told me to come and get the tractor. I tried to pay him for it and he refused to take anything. He passed away a couple years ago, but he stopped by to visit (I'm not sure if he stopped to see me or his tractor!) several times until he got sick. |

Thanks Curt, that's what I was trying to get across, This has worked for me time and time again. It just take a 1/2 hour or so to find a new AC friend and like Curt I had a pickup head for my 66 given to me this same way, and yes he has stopped by a few times too and I know it's just to see it here sitting inside the barn and not in the scrap pile.

"The conversation" method has an advantage with tractors or just about anything you are looking to buy.

Yeah I planned on creating conversation first. I know I would be upset with someone that just stopped by and offered scrap price for something that I could haul to the yard myself.
But I do plan on stopping by the next time I am around there. It willbe a while but will get pics and update you all. Thanks Don and wf owner. |
