1959 D 17 I am not sure how the original way of operating the choke, when I got it the cable or rod was gone. I have a cable but not sure how it is originally set up. I can make a bracket to make it work but would like to do it original , carb is original. thanks

1959 would use a rod to activate the choke. Runs from the carb and comes out the shield under the gas tank.

I have a 59 D17, it is a rod it attaches to the engine side of the carb, and extends to the left side panel below the gas tank. There should be a slit about 3-8in wide and about 2in long that the rod will stick through with a screw on ball. I do not have any way of taking or posting pics so im no help there.

Is that rod 2 pieces? That looks just like the shut off on a D17D. The diesel shut off is 2 pieces anyway.

Gas choke rod is one-piece and on all D17's prior to series 3.

You can obtain aftermarket side panels from Norm or Doc's Equipment. There may be other suppliers who advertise on this site who can also provide them.

I made a bracket and hitched a choke cable that I already had up to choke on carb and it works really good I put the choke control in the light switch hole(clutch side) and moved the light switch to the brakes side. I have a bad habit of revising and retooling different parts on equipment, sometimes it works and sometimes not. Thanks anyway.
