My early 39 RC never had a choke rod.  Here is a picture, there is no hole in the footrest for the choke rod. Later RC's had a choke rod like the one on my 39 WC.

Mark It is a fairly long rod. When we did ours we tried to see where it would go.But as I think of it we converted it to electric start and if it were to be cranked it would not need the choke to come back to the seat It took a long time to see one that was unrestored and sitting in a barn under a pile of wood and i finally saw where it went Tadams said it runs along the fram to the foot rest just as the wc does

This might help.  part of my 39 WC ,  Rc is about the same.

That was a good reason to get out early this morning.
My RC might not have had starter and lights when new ?

I have looked at many AC promotional pic. for the RC. I have not seen a photo showing the choke rod.  I have seen them rigged up like what is shown and mentioned but I have not seen one in an Official AC photo.

Yes, that's the original choke rod location down below.  A later parts book & brochure will show this, but the early ones won't.  For some reason, the RC wasn't available with electrical right away, perhaps to keep the cost down since they were an 'economy' two row tractor.  Most had electrical added, and the choke rod usually got ran up near the throttle, especially since the hole wasn't in the footrest for it.  The starter rod was easy enough to bolt to the footrest.
