Ladies and Gentlemen, Let's take a minute and remember "a date that will live in infamy", December 7, 1941. The day the USA was suprised attacked - without decleration of war - at Pearl Harbor.
We lost a lot of men, planes, and ships that day - suprisingly not as many casualties as in 9/11 - and went into WWII FIGHTING MAD.
I was only a little short of 8 at the time but cannot forget the anger and determination we all got. For some reason we knew that was a war we could not loose. We all did anything necessary to win.
Take a minute to remember those who give their all that day and every military person who served in WWII. The are our "Greatest Generation"
Good Luck!

Thanks for posting, I lost a Uncle a couple of months ago that was shot in Okinawa by a jap machine gun. He was nursed back to health in Hawaii after a long stay. He had earned several medals that I never new he had until after his death. Seems the greatest generation are dying fast.

They ARE the greatest generation. I don't think we have the resolve to fight like that anymore. They saved the world in my opinion. A friend of mine's dad passed a few years ago and they have since found out that he was a very decorated soldier. He started on D-Day and went to the end in Europe and fought in battles where most of his comrades were killed. He led a very uneventful and simple lifestyle after the war. I am sure there are a lot of these same stories everywhere. I am sure thankful that we had them at the right time.JP

They are passing at the rate of 2000 per day, and had some real backbone. The politicians we had then had some backbone too, not like the weak-kneed bunch we have in Washington today. They knew how to fight a war, none of the silly-assed "rules of engagement" our soldiers must deal with today. You went there, killed the enemy and their relatives and supporters and came home.
Sorry, this should probably be on the politcal page.

I would like to thank, and offer a great big debt of grattitude to all the veterans on our Forum. My dad is a korean war vet and never talked about the front line fighting, only how cold it was & how after he was wounded, instead of going home, he went back to the front to cook until his time was up. How many of todays yuppies would go back, volentarily into a war zone, and do what they could to support their unit after being wounded bad enough to disable them? Then go home and run a business until retirement, then cut wood, garden, hunt, etc for the next 20 years, in daily pain, "Don't like to take pills" Yes they are the greatest generation, I pale in comparison. Thank-You Veterans...Harvey

Being from a small community our Legion Post is thinning out fast, only a few WWll men left. Have one that survived Pearl Harbor, he says he just happened to be there and takes no special credit. Says a lot for that generation. God bless them. Fred

Thank you Thank you! Seems not quite enough, but it is what I have! I worked with a Marine who had served in Iraq. I made a point to thank him for doing that and he almost beat me up. Don't know what that was about, but I guess his experience was not positive in any way.
